
R.Michael Greiwe, M.D.
Dr. R. Michael Greiwe attended the University of Notre Dame, where he won the prestigious Knute Rockne Award for excellence in academics and athletics. He completed his orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Cincinnati Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. In 2010, Dr. Greiwe completed a fellowship in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine at Columbia University where he trained with the head team physician for the New York Yankees, Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Dr. Greiwe is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Greiwe is Director of Orthopaedic Research at OrthoCincy and consultant to an NIH grant on tendon research and development. He has authored more than 25 articles and book chapters related to shoulder, elbow and sports medicine, he lectures nationally, and has won numerous awards for outstanding research in orthopaedic surgery. He has ongoing research in the areas of Tommy John surgery, reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, total shoulder arthroplasty, hemiarthroplasty and fractures of the shoulder, and recently developed the “Rotator Cuff Sparing Approach for Total Shoulder Replacement.” He is the team physician for Covington Catholic High School.
Dr. Greiwe specializes in shoulder replacement, instability and labral tears; rotator cuff pathology; ACL injuries; Tommy John surgery; and advanced arthroscopic surgical techniques for sports-related injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. He also speaks Spanish fluently.
Dr. Greiwe was named a “Top Doctor” by Cincinnati Magazine in 2014, 2015, 2016, and again in 2017. He was also selected as a Finalist for the Cincinnati Business Courier’s “2014 Health Care Heroes” Innovator Award for his work in research and advanced surgical techniques. He won the Legacy Leadership Award for Health Care in 2014. Dr. Greiwe also serves as the Editor of the shoulder and elbow textbook, Shoulder & Elbow Trauma and its Complications, published by Elsevier in 2015.

Samer S. Hasan, M.D., Ph.D
Dr. Samer Hasan is a board certified surgeon specializing in treating shoulder and elbow conditions. He is a sought-after speaker on a variety of shoulder topics including anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, posterior shoulder instability, and treatment of massive rotator cuff tears. He has been an invited speaker at the German Shoulder and Elbow Society, Tampa Complex Solutions in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and the Paris International Shoulder Course (in which he was one of only 10 US delegates to largest Western shoulder arthroplasty course in the world). He has also given presentations at International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in Jeju, South Korea and in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and at ISAKOS in Shanghai, China. In addition to speaking world-wide, Dr. Hasan has presented at both Open and Closed Meetings of the ASES, Annual Meeting of AAOS, the Mayo Clinic Tendon Transfer Course, and at the San Diego Shoulder Institute.
Born and raised in New York City, he attended Northwestern University near Chicago where he majored in Biomedical Engineering, graduating with both honors and research honors. Dr. Hasan was awarded a Medical Scientist Training Program Scholarship from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences to pursue dual training in both medicine and engineering and received both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Hasan completed his residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, where he received the prestigious American Orthopaedic Association-Zimmer Travel Award and consecutive Jorge O.Galante Excellence in Research Awards. Interested in a career as a shoulder and elbow surgeon, Dr. Hasan traveled to Seattle for a one-year appointment as a Fellow and Acting Instructor in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the University of Washington. He received additional training in advanced shoulder arthroscopy at the Texas Orthopaedic Hospital in Houston before moving to the Tri-State area.
Dr. Hasan has published nearly seventy peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has delivered over one hundred scientific presentations at national and international meetings all over the world. He frequently provides editorial commentaries for Arthroscopy, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and Orthopedics Today (most recent article here). He has coedited a monograph on “Disorders on the Biceps Tendon” and an online textbook on Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty. He serves as an instructor and lecturer for the AAOS, the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES), and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). Between 2001 and 2006 he co-authored the annual review of “What’s New in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery” for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the leading orthopaedic journal worldwide. Dr. Hasan is a member of the Editorial Boards for Arthroscopy, a leading journal on minimally invasive joint surgery, and for Orthopedics Today. In 2006, Dr. Hasan was invited to join American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES), a society comprised of the leading national and international orthopaedic surgeons specializing in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Admission into ASES is by nomination only and based on sustained academic and research contributions to the field. Dr. Hasan was the first ASES member in the Greater Cincinnati area. He has also appeared on FOX19’s Business Spotlight.
Dr. Hasan is also active in a variety of society committees and leadership roles. He is currently Co-Chair of the Education Committee for ASES. He served two consecutive terms on the Publications Committee of the AAOS and has served on program committees for both AAOS and ASES. He also is director of online shoulder and elbow CME content for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Recently Dr. Hasan was invited to join the US delegation to the 2nd International Consensus Meeting on Prosthetic Joint Infections that took place in Philadelphia in July 2018.
In Cincinnati, Dr. Hasan serves as core faculty member of the Cincinnati Sports Medicine Fellowship and also is adjunct instructor for the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Hasan also serves as Chief of Orthopaedics for The Jewish Hospital, and previously served as Chief of Surgery (2016-2019). From 2001 to 2014 he served as team physician for Dixie Heights High School in Erlanger, Kentucky and since 2016 he has served as team physician for Deer Park High School. Dr. Hasan is also active in various community education and outreach programs.
Although Dr. Hasan has a strong and enduring interest in research and education, it is his patients that command his greatest attention. He is committed to providing each patient, athlete or non-athlete, young or old, the best non-operative and surgical orthopaedic care. His specialty interest is arthroscopic and open reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow such as arthroscopic rotator cuff and shoulder instability repairs, shoulder replacement surgery including the reverse shoulder replacement, and surgeries for elbow and shoulder fractures.
When not engaged in patient care, teaching or research, Dr. Hasan enjoys spending time with his family as well as tennis, cycling, and downhill skiing. He has traveled to all 6 continents, including extensive travel throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean and South America, and to forty-seven states.
Dr. Hasan is licensed in Ohio and Kentucky.

Paul J. Favorito, M.D.
Dr. Favorito is a fellowship-trained, board certified orthopedic surgeon. He specializes in the treatment of all shoulder disorders and is recognized as a regional expert. His practice is limited to the treatment of shoulder disorders and has specific interests in the treatment of shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, arthritis and fractures.
Dr. Favorito is actively involved in teaching. He was a professor with the Wellington Orthopaedic and University of Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship from 2000-2015. He has served as a Master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and as a chairman or course instructor for more than 50 shoulder courses nationally and internationally.
